Look, I’ve never met Iwata so I’m not gonna act like I know the guy. As far as I know he’s probably just your usual stubborn Japanese business man that puts on a face every two months to sell me video game products about jumping plumbers and portable animal abuse all the while looking a fool as he sits back in his chair staring lustfully at a banana bunch. What I do know is gaming probably wouldn’t be the same without him.
While some may chide his “questionable” business practices, I felt he did one thing better than all the other developers in the industry: he put the company’s emphasis on fun and innovation. Iwata was a pioneer who cared more about creativity and forward thinking than focusing on “what works” or “what sells”. Sure the company didn’t always follow the latest gaming trends, but it didn’t need to. Iwata was the breath of fresh air the industry needed and in that respect he will be sorely missed.
